Health and Care Regulations

When you arrive in Dubai with a furry friend, you need to pay attention to some rules:

1. Make sure your pet is legal to own in the UAE.

Dogs, cats, parrots, or small mammals such as hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets are accepted in the UAE. However, it is illegal to bring exotic pets. In addition, certain types of dogs are prohibited from entering. Among them are:

Different types of terriers

American hero

Different types of Mastiffs

Japanese Tosa

Presa Canario

A full list of prohibited dog breeds can be found here.

2. Registration and Vaccination

Before coming to the UAE, you must ensure that your pet is registered and fully vaccinated. In addition, your pet needs a microchip and a health certificate.

Cleaning and prevention

The UAE is obliged to take full responsibility for the actions of the pet as well as cleaning them up. For example, if your dog attacks someone or damages someone else's property, you will have to pay a fine of Dh500 or more.

Veterinary Clinic in Dubai

If you are bringing pets to Dubai, make sure you know if they need any other procedures or vaccinations after you arrive. You can visit one of the many animal clinics in town. If you want to choose the best one, make sure that they have the following features:

Many different services are offered

Good reputation and long history

Location within 30-40 minutes drive (for your and your pet's comfort)

Other good options are Noble Veterinary Clinic, Dera Veterinary Clinic, and Modern Vet Hospital.

Pet insurance

Owning a pet always comes with responsibility for the pet's health. That's why you need pet insurance, which allows you to take care of your pet at no extra cost. You always know it will cover your pet's medical bills.

Unfortunately, this is not a common practice in Dubai. But there is another way, which means that you can buy a member from a selected veterinary clinic. It helps to reduce treatment costs and stay among immediate customers.

Getting a pet in Dubai

If you don't have a pet yet and want to get one in Dubai, you can easily find one here.

But before you head to the pet store, consider giving your dog or cat a place to live a happy life. Licensed shelters will provide you with microchipped and sterilized animals. In addition, your pet will be dewormed and fully vaccinated. Here are some reliable places to stay in Dubai:

K9 Friends

One of the oldest animal shelters in Dubai is K9 FRIENDS. It has been operating since 1989. Within its walls, there are more than 120 dogs and puppies. You can adopt a pet or bring dog food and volunteer for a while.

The base of the PAW is red

A non-profit organization in partnership with the UAE government rescues injured and abused cats and dogs. After that, they are vaccinated, neutered, and spayed. When pets are fully recovered, they are ready for adoption by a responsible person. The founders of Red Paws believe that every cat and dog deserves to be cared for by loving people.

Slow down in Dubai

More than 5,000 animals have a temporary home at SNIFF. All of them were released and rescued by the organization. By adopting a pet from SNIFF, you will be able to take advantage of the full post-adoption service.

However, adopting a pet is only the beginning. Pet lovers should follow certain rules while staying with them in Dubai.
